About Focus on French Cinema

Focus on French Cinema Mission:
Focus on French Cinema is a FILM FESTIVAL dedicated to the cultural identity of French language film. The festival fulfills a unique educational role by engaging an international audience. The goal is to encourage a thought-provoking dialogue concerning the diversity of French cultures through film. Our educational programs for students reinforce this mission. By promoting film not only as entertainment but as a powerful educational and storytelling tool Focus on French Cinema provides a unique forum for cultural exchange in our community.​


Education:

Educational outreach is an important part of the mission of Focus on French Cinema's. Each year the Festival organizes several activities for students:

  A Round Table featuring visiting actors, directors and cinema professionals, open to the public  
  A special screening on with a Q&A specially targeted to College students
  A special screening of a film chosen for middle and high school French students in the area
  A French Film Review Writing Contest for area schools
  A Short filmmaking workshop for college level film students taught by a French Film Director
  A Master class with a French Director or actor for Purchase College Students
  A family Film on Sunday Morning

Who we are:

Founded in 2005, Focus on French Cinema is an independent festival which, in founding partnership with the Alliance Française of Greenwich, CT, screened over 100 films in 9 years to more than 25,000 spectators in the NY/CT tri-state area, featuring the best in French cinema from all over the world.

Focus on French Cinema is Presented By:
Alliance Française of Greenwich 
A community of francophiles and francophones with over 300 members, 
A school where adults and children learn French with native-speaking teachers,
A resource center that provides books, videos, DVDs & information about France, 
An association that belongs to a network of more than 1,700 Alliances Françaises, 
A non-profit organization founded in 1918.

Its purpose is to:
Encourage and further the knowledge of French culture and language, through lectures, theater, cinema and scholarships.
Reinforce friendship and cultural links between American and French people through many events including wine tastings, book clubs, small group discussion and many others activities. 
Welcome French families in the area.
